That may be tough for most Americans to hear, but...

While Obama plays golf, Putin defends liberty

by Judson Phillips

Yesterday, President Obama was doing the two things he does best: playing golf and helping America’s enemies.

Obama briefly interrupted his golf game and vacation to record a short audio statement in which he announced that America will cancel bilateral military exercises with Egypt because of the Egyptian military’s crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood.

Egypt’s leaders breathed a sigh of relief; at least he wasn’t sending them Joe Biden.

Obama announced, “We don’t take sides with any particular party or political figure.” His policies have been consistent since he went on his apology tour to Cairo in June 2009. If a group is anti-American and is working against America, western interests, freedom or liberty, Obama supports it.

Putin says leaders should unite
to end anti-Christian persecution

Vladimir Putin said last week that he observes “with alarm” that “in many of the world’s regions, especially in the Middle East and in North Africa, inter-confessional tensions are mounting, and the rights of religious minorities are infringed, including Christians and Orthodox Christians.”
The Russian president made his comments at a meeting with Orthodox Christian leaders in Moscow. He urged the international community to take steps towards preserving the rights of Christian people worldwide and preventing the violence that they suffer routinely in dozens of nations around the globe.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent comments in defense of Christianity attracted a lot of attention. Is he genuinely devout, or was this pure political maneuvering? The truth is both, but this is all a part of a broader strategy.
Putin is no fool. The Russian government has long colluded with religion, but under Putin’s reign, the connection has grown stronger. He understands the importance of social morals, and he knows that Russia is plagued by many problems: catastrophic abortion rates, high suicide rates, and an entrenched sex trafficking market, to name a few. He sees Christianity — Russian Orthodoxy, in particular — as a solution to his country’s problems.
