Globalization as a trend may well have peaked over the past 20 years.

Has globalisation peaked?

By Tyler Cowman

  • Professor Tyler Cowan considers the future of globalisation and offers a mixed perspective.
  • He believes that the rise of the global middle class, internet connectivity, the growth in international social and commercial networks as well as the increasing share of natural resources in GDP all suggest that trade should continue to thrive.
  • On the other hand, the emergence of large service sectors in developing economies, wage-equalisation across countries and a deteriorating geopolitical landscape could reverse the process of globalisation.
