Why Trade Matters
As annual global trade surpasses a record $5 trillion, the Heritage Foundation and Wall Street Journal find that countries with the most trade freedom have higher per capita incomes, lower incidences of hunger in their populations, and cleaner environments.
Tariffs in developing countries fell by 21 percentage points between 1983 and 2003, and two-thirds of these cuts were unilateral.
