"Thomas More and the Heretics: Statesman or Fanatic?"

Thomas More Was Not "Unnaturally Fond of Torturing Heretics"

Thomas More generally shared in the prejudices of his age and was complicit in practices (most especially the use of state coercion with regard to religious belief) that we would today regard as morally odious.
That's just to say that he lived in the early sixteenth century and not the early twenty-first century, and we could have a lively discussion about how the Catholic Church should assess the sanctity of people with the benefit of historical and moral hindsight.

Lithuania’s Boy Smugglers Go Back to Class

by Linas Jegelevicius

The numbers say that fewer children are skipping school to help with the illegal trade.
Just a couple of years ago, it was not unusual for groups of boys at the high school in Lumpenai, a few kilometers from the Lithuanian-Russian border, to run out of class as the teacher looked on helplessly.

Chen Guangcheng: First U.S. presentation

Chen Guangcheng: Basic Human Goodness Will Overcome

Corruption, Suppression

BY JOHN BURGER

In his first U.S. presentation, the dissident makes no mention of his work combating abuses of one-child policy, but outlines basic view of restoring rule of law in China.

Chen Guangcheng this morning gave his first presentation in the United States since his dramatic departure from China this month.

Chen, who ran into trouble with local authorities in his native Shandong Province after documenting abuses stemming from China’s one-child-per-couple restriction, answered questions from an audience at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York.
