The Week in Review: November 12, 2016

Obamacare premiums are exploding, just as mises.org has long predicted. Another disastrous example of politicians discarding basic common sense in passing through legislation to address aproblem they themselves have created. Unfortunately there is little hope of politicians learning from their mistakes, as they continue to push through bill, after bill, after bill that expands their influence at the expense of the market and human freedom. No wonder public faith in elections are collapsing as the reach of the state grows larger. Hopefully this growing distrust can spur a libertarian populist awakening, leading to the spread of the ideas that make civilization prosperous.

It happened. The establishment intelligentsia was wrong. With the support of 26 percent of eligible voters, Donald J. Trump was elected president of the United States.

So what comes next? Who knows! The problems inherit with politics still remain, the economy is full of warning signs, andthere’s nothing government can do to make America great again besides getting out of the way. Will Trump deliver American a new foreign policy? Will his policies enrich the pockets of “fly over” voters that got him into office? Will he ditch his calls for protectionism for genuine free trade? We’ll see.

But at least he has the left embracing secession.
