  • The first big number of the day was China's official manufacturing PMI number, which unexpectedly signaled contraction again.
  • The index came in at 49.8, which was below economists's expectation for it to climb to 50.1.  
  • This was, however, a slight improvement from 49.2 in August.
  • China is the second largest economy in the world and arguably its most important source of growth.
