Democracy and Representation: On the Relevance and Importance of Eric Voegelin’s Theory of Representation

The relationship between democracy and representation is one of the basic questions of political science and philosophy. A crisis of representation, as is currently being diagnosed in western democracies, has actually been a persistent issue from their very beginning. This conference tries to shed light on the topic from different perspectives and will in particular discuss the question of the extent to which Eric Voegelin's political theory can contribute to a better understanding of the problem of representation.
