Editorial
Se acaba de publicar el Índice de libertad económica de la Heritage Foundation, que establece un ranking de la libertad económica de 179 países. La Argentina ocupa el bochornoso puesto 135. Nos interesa destacar simplemente dos puntos. Primero, que la posición relativa respecto al resto de los países nos muestra un larguísimo camino a recorrer para que la libertad económica sea una realidad tangible y un factor competitivo de nuestra economía. Y el segundo, es que sobre 10 variables que se analizan figuramos “aplazados” en tres de ellas: Derecho de propiedad (2,00) Corrupción (2,90) y Libertad Financiera (3,00).
Cualquiera sea la metodología utilizada en el estudio, a quienes recorremos estos caminos no nos hacía falta el mismo para saber que la corrupción ha sentado sus reales de un modo que será muy difícil erradicar en nuestro país, y que están gravemente amenazados el derecho de propiedad y la libertad del sistema financiero, además de otras libertades. La pendiente es empinada y los obreros son pocos; pero quien se anote para la reconstrucción recibirá el ciento por uno. “El que quiera entender que entienda”. El tiempo apremia.

Chávez se declara marxista
Por fin el presidente venezolano Hugo Chávez se declara marxista públicamente, once años después de estarlo negando en el poder. «Por primera vez asumo y lo asumo, y yo cuando asumo, asumo. Asumo el marxismo. Lo asumo», recalcó varias veces por si acaso no lo habían escuchado bien. El mandatario ha tardado mucho tiempo en reconocer el ropaje de su régimen, aunque ha ganado y repetido en la presidencia mediante elecciones populares.

Algunos sibaritas las tratan con desdén, y si se consumen en exceso pueden resultar perjudiciales. El libro al que me refiero es un ejemplo de libro-hamburguesa. Aporta muchas ideas por página; se lee fácilmente; es de una autora que se lee mucho, cuyas obras –especialmente las de ficción- son realmente muy entretenidas. Algunas elites intelectuales desprecian a esta autora como poco intelectual. Y si se toman demasiado en serio todas sus ideas, puede uno sufrir una intoxicación. La autora a quien me refiero es Ayn Rand, y el libro es “Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal”, publicado en 1966.

Nurturing a noble tradition
Alasdair MacIntyre lists three problems that are inescapable for theism. The first is how to reconcile the goodness of God with the evil in the universe. The second is this: if God is the cause of every happening, it seems that finite agents have no real powers. The third is that it seems doubtful whether one can speak meaningfully in human language of a God who exceeds the grasp of human understanding. MacIntyre sets out the problems bluntly and fairly, but he does not set out to solve them.
